Welcome back to Term 4

Here are some of the Room One and Two children enjoying our milk, we think it is pretty delicious.  Some of us are becoming experts at folding our milk cartons too.

Sports Wrap

Last term we were lucky enough to do some Rugby skills training with one of the Makos.  It was really fun and we especially liked when we got to kick the ball off the stand.

 We also had our school cross country.  Our class did really well, Miss Charmley was really proud of our efforts.

Pets Parade

We had a pets parade on Thursday.  It was really fun, we got to bring in our favourite pets.  Here are some of them.

Probability

We have been thinking about probability today.  Miss Charmley read us a story and then we had to decide if a character in the story would see our pictures, might see our pictures or wouldn't see our pictures.  Miss Charmley thinks we are experts at this.

Printing

We have been learning about the q sound today.  Ngawai has done some beautiful q printing.

Probability

We have been learning about probability.  Miss Charmley read us a story 'The Gruffalo''.  We then had to decide if the Gruffalo would have seen, might have seen, or wouldn't have seen all the things in our pictures, when he was going through the woods.  The pictures on blue card are all the things the Gruffalo would have seen.  The pictures on the black card are all the things the Gruffalo might have seen.  The pictues on the pink card are all the things the Gruffalo wouldn't see.  We had to give good reasons why each picture belonged in it's space.  Do you agree with our choices?

Teddy Bears Picnic

Today we had a teddy bears picnicwith our big buddies.  It was really nice to show off our teddies, eat lunch with them and play with them at big buddy time.  Thanks big buddies - we think you're pretty awesome!

Purple Hearts

Room 2 made purple hearts to show all the things they are thankful for.  Some children were thankful for their families, some were thankful for their houses, their toys or their friends. 

Amazing Art

We have been using Crayon and dye to make some beautiful pictures.  These pictures are of us displaying the schools 4R's: Respect for others; Respect for property; Respect for ourselves; and Respect for the environment.

This weeks poem

This weeks poem is 'Ten Little Monkeys'.  We have been practising and doing the actions, it is one of our favourite poems.

Kia Kaha

We have had Mr Tonkin in doing Kia Kaha with us.  He has been teaching us about how cool it is to be different, making sensible choices and what to do around bullies.  Thanks Mr T!

Moth Update

We have been to the Landcare Research website to identify the moth from yesterday. 

It is a great website for identifying bugs of all shapes and sizes.

We thought it was a Gum emperor moth, do you think we are right?

Amazing Moths

Look at this HUGE moth Alva found on the side of her room.  It has amazing long wings, with spots, and furry legs.  We are going to start searching what type of moth this is. Watch this space, for our findings....

Circle Time

We like to finish off our day with Circle Time.  This gives us a chance to share events in our day and celebrate good things that we or others have done.  Here Beau is discussing who he saw being a good friend today.  We all try to be great friends in Room 1 by being kind and looking after each other.

Roles and Responsibilities

We have been discussing our responsibilities.  

Here are some of the things we are responsible for:

A new action song

We were really lucky to have a new teacher, Lisa, teach us an action song today.  It was called Peters Hammer.  Here we are learning the song and then doing the actions.

The song goes.....
Peter hammers with one hammer, one hammer, one hammer, 
Peter hammers  with one hammer all day long.
(We used our hand to 'hammer' to the beat)  The song repeats with two hammers (both hands), three hammers (hands and one foot stamping), four hammers (both hands and both feet jumping) and finally five hammers (both hands, both feet and head bobbing).

We loved learning the song, it was lots of fun keeping in time with the beat and we loved jumping and bobbing around at the end.  Thanks Lisa!

Junior Swimming Display

Today was our Junior Syndicate Swimming Display. 

We have been practising our display for weeks.  Today we got to show our parents lots of different things. We got into the pool safely, showed them our kicking, how we breathe out our noses, our floating and gliding and then we got out of the pool safely.

We really loved seeing our Parents, Aunties and Grandparents at the display.  Thank you for watching us.

Robots

 As part of our 'All about me' topic, we made robots.  

We thought about what we would be like as a robot.  Would we be a small robot?  Would we be a super-power robot?  Would we be able to walk?  Or would we fly?  We had lots of questions.

Some of us put buttons and switches on our robots.  Some of us had robot arms, some of our robots even had super powers!  We think they're pretty cool!
